Well peeps this week was MY first week back at Hillmorton Locks (the busiest in the country) although the rest of the volunteers started back on the 3rd April. I have been delayed due to a lovely lady cutting an hole in my eye. God bless the NHS.

However we are now back and getting stuck into a new season. Already we are up to just over 400 boats with 81 boaters trying us out on Good Friday. Pleasing to have lot's of new boaters trying our canals out for the first time, lets hope it's not the last time.

So what's new this year well we have a new selection of posters and leaflets to hand out, some on behalf of the Fire Brigade so just ask the lock keeper what he's got.

We also have a Book Swap where you may either swap some books you have read for new ones or, if you don't have a book to swap you could make a small contribution to our plant fund which will be used by volunteer lockie Jane to keep the flowers blooming all season long.

Our Book Swap thanks to volunteer lockie Kevin and Taryn.

Also this week the tale of the boatyard boss waiting for one of his boats to arrive at Hillmorton form Rugby to make a minor adjustment. After waiting for half an hour the boater rang him to confess he had turned left instead of right and was disappearing off into the sunset the wrong way. Lets hope he gets his bearings in time to return the boat.

That's about it for now peeps, but hopefully we will have enough news to post a blog every week. Don't forget to say hello if your passing through Hillmorton wether it be on a boat or walking the towpath.

See you all next week.

About Me

I have been a volunteer Lock Keeper with the Canal and River Trust for over 5 years now giving out advice where I think it's needed, whether it's taken or not is up to the recipients, and helping when required, again this help is not mandatory. Working at Hillmorton throughout the summer and then Watford through the winter just to keep my hand in. When Im not working on locks you can find me up and down the canal network on my very own 47 foot narrowboat.
