This week at the locks

Well peeps although it has been relatively slow boatwise at Hillmorton, we are well over a thousand boats in our first Month back. However this easier pace does allow us to carry out maintenance and improvements to our site. This week this has included a lot of gardening by volunteer Jane, a new leaflet holding board constructed by volunteer Kev and a bit of grass cutting by yours truly.

Volunteer Jane has done a marvelous job in planting up the two flower borders we have created at Hillmorton and the tremendous downpour on Friday, which caught yours truly out, has now set the plants of to a rocketing start. Bring on the Towpath in Bloom contest

We also had through one of the best named boats I have seen for a while which was "N.B. YESDEAR". No arguing with the little woman here then.

On a more serious note we did have a boater collapse on the towpath but fortunately the lock keeper on duty was volunteer Bob who is a retired paramedic. Bob was able to deal with the problem and ensure the boater got off to hospital in a timely manner. As I write this blog the boater is on the mend and hopefully will soon be back on the boat.

Another medical emergency this week, this is getting like an episode of Casualty, a boater came through who had seriously damaged his finger whilst coming through Clifton bridge. Volunteer Jane , having finished her gardening duties, was able to drive the patient to the nearest medical centre in Rugby for treatment. Thank goodness for local knowledge.

As an addendum to this tale we now carry as part of our site equipment several of the emergency foil blankets, the sort you get wrapped in after completing the London Marathon. Lets hope they stay in their protective packaging.
