Good day peeps and welcome to week 2 of 2018. What's happened this week. Well only two weeks into the new season and we have already met over four hundred boats despite the diabolical weather, apart from Thursday's and Friday's when yours truly is there when the sun always shines. Something to do with righteous I believe.

Anyway this Thursday I had the pleasures of the company of two of my grandson's so got down to teaching them how to work a lock safely. This must have tired them out as they were in bed by eight o'clock.

Trainee lock keepers

Very nice show of miniature daffodils at top and bottom lock, hopefully the start to our entry into Rugby in Bloom 2018.

Here we see Volly Vince preparing the herb bed which if successful the produce will be free to boaters and our other customers. ( No digging involved in this operation)

Lots of first time boaters this week especially on Friday with people trying it out for the weekend. Lot's of nice people who hopefully we sent on their way a little surer of what to do.One of our customers asked what the OTHER lock was for and was quite surprised when we told her it was in case we had another boat come along.

Well that's it for this week peeps, but please keep coming along on your boats, we need to be the busiest lock's again, or walking and don't forget our book swap or just have a chat with the lockies.

See you next time.

About Me

I have been a volunteer Lock Keeper with the Canal and River Trust for over 5 years now giving out advice where I think it's needed, whether it's taken or not is up to the recipients, and helping when required, again this help is not mandatory. Working at Hillmorton throughout the summer and then Watford through the winter just to keep my hand in. When Im not working on locks you can find me up and down the canal network on my very own 47 foot narrowboat.
