Hello peeps, sorry no blog last week but I am experiencing some problems with my internet/e-mail, it'll probably turn out to be me, it usually is.

We sadly said goodbye to one of our colleagues Ted this week with a memorial service where all the Hillmorton vollies turned up in uniform as requested by Ted's wife Jane. I think Ted would have approved of the send off.

Meanwhile back at the locks we assisted our 1000 boat through the locks. This figure being achieved in under a month and not the best of weather. We have however taken the opportunity to install three new mooring bollards to replace the ones that had rotted away. There is still one more to put in hopefully done by the end of next week. These were installed by vollies, Taryn, Vince, Kevin and in a minor roll yours truly. We were under the direction of full time staff Brian, top man, and Dave. All we've got to do now is paint them to make them look smart for our customers.

We have also installed the first of our flower planters in between locks 2 and 3 with the second one hopefully to follow this week. These are in preparation for our entry into the Rugby in Bloom competition. We have also bought onto site our new picnic table, again for the use of all our customers and will be assembling it and putting it into position. Look out for a few bedraggled vollies humping it about next week.

Interesting boat through this week with unusual crew members, see photo below. I think they were heading for Hawkesbury.

They are in fact Harris hawks.

Well that's about it for this week peeps, hope to be back to normal next week with my IT skills. Do stop and have a chat with the lock keepers when your passing through Hillmnorton and don't forget our book swap.;

About Me

I have been a volunteer Lock Keeper with the Canal and River Trust for over 5 years now giving out advice where I think it's needed, whether it's taken or not is up to the recipients, and helping when required, again this help is not mandatory. Working at Hillmorton throughout the summer and then Watford through the winter just to keep my hand in. When Im not working on locks you can find me up and down the canal network on my very own 47 foot narrowboat.
